“We are gratified that our annual report on toy safety, Trouble in Toyland, has resulted in a safer marketplace for our littlest consumers,” said MASSPIRG consumer advocate Andrew Fish. “Our report found that pieces of the Hello Kitty Bracelet and Hair Clips Accessory Set had more than five times the legal limit of DEHP, a plastic softener that can alter development of the reproductive system in young boys. The recent action by Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores to remove this product from store shelves is a step in the right direction.”

“However, parents and caregivers should remain vigilant when shopping for all toys and use our online tips to avoid common hazards in products which may remain on store shelves.”
